Sewer/Water Rates & Water Meters
Starting in 2007, water meters will be installed in Turlock. Water meters are required by State Law.
Water metering will encourage efficient water use among customers, ensure that customers enjoy a high quality and reliable water source for years to come, and provide more equitable charges for water service.
Meters will allow customers to pay for what they actually use. Customers then can directly benefit from efficient water use measures they choose to implement.
Water Meter Locations
Your water meter will be installed where water first enters your property. About one-half of the homes in Turlock already have a meter box - at these homes a meter can be readily "dropped in".
In the older parts of Turlock, the City’s contractor will install both a meter box and a meter.
Meter Installation Process
You will be given advance notice of when the meter installers will be in your neighborhood (letters, door hangers, etc). A crew will come to your property, dig a hole about two feet wide and five feet long, and install the meter box and meter. Your yard will be restored to its previous condition after the meter is installed.
Changes to your bill
Your current bill already includes the cost of water meter installation, including the cost of the meter.
On average, most households on metered water will have little change in their water bill.
Customers who use above the average amount of water will see their bill increase.
Metered water bills are generally higher in the summer and lower in the winter.
The City plans to implement a transition period to help customers adjust to a metered bill.
