School Resource Officers

The Turlock Police Department is committed to keeping the children in our community safe. We understand that in order to do this effectively, we need to work hand in hand with the Turlock Unified School District. We accomplish this through the School Resource Officer Program.

The Turlock Unified School District has two high schools in its district. Each school, Turlock High and Pitman High, has a Police Officer assigned to it. These officers also work closely with the elementary and middle school campuses in the district.

The primary function of these officers is to keep the campuses safe. They work closely with the school’s administration, teachers and faculty to accomplish this. They also serve as mentors to the kids on campus. On many occasions the officers give presentations to the children and parents on topics such as gang awareness and the dangers of drinking and driving. The children learn to trust these officers in a way that they may not be able to in any other “normal” police interaction. It is our goal that the children at these schools look to the School Resource Officers as a constant and reliable presence on campus and in their lives.

SRO Johnson

Hello, my name is Derek Johnson and I have been with the Turlock Police Department as a Police Officer since October of 2004.

I was born and raised in the Central Valley. I am married with two children. I graduated with a B.A. in Criminal Justice from California State University, Stanislaus in 2003. My assignment as an SRO began in January, 2008.

SRO Rodriguez

Hello, my name is Ian Rodriguez and I have been employed with the Turlock Police Department as a Police Officer since June of 2005.

Prior to working as a Police Officer I attended California State University, Fresno where I received my Bachelors Degree in Criminology in 2000. After earning my degree, I began to work for the Fresno County Probation Department. I was assigned to the Elkhorn Correctional Facility and worked at a juvenile boot camp. I was employed as a Juvenile Correctional Officer and then promoted to a Senior Juvenile Correctional Officer. I enjoyed working with the at-risk juveniles as it gave me an opportunity to try to reach out to them and possibly make a change in their behavior for the better.

Since being employed with the Turlock Police Department I have worked Patrol. In 2008 I became a Field Training Officer.

In my current assignment I am working as the School Resource Officer assigned to the Turlock High School campus. I am excited to be working as the SRO for Turlock High School as it again will give me an opportunity to work with juveniles while making THS a safe place to learn.
