Street Crime Unit

The Turlock Police Department currently has four police officers and a sergeant assigned to its street crimes unit. The unit’s name is the Criminal Apprehension and Gang Enforcement team or C.A.G.E..

What is a street crimes unit?

A street crimes unit, as it is commonly called in the law enforcement community, is a team of officers who are given the freedom to proactively combat crime. Officers are not tasked with taking calls for service and routine reports. Therefore they have the time to focus their efforts on known problem areas and persons, as well as crimes in progress.

What types of problems do they work on?

Just as the name C.A.G.E. describes, their main mission is to apprehend known wanted persons, as well as combating gangs and their influence in our community. C.A.G.E collaborates with other divisions within the Turlock Police Department, as well as other agencies and members of the community, in order to address gang violence, parolees, probationers, and common public nuisance issues. The team is commonly engaged in monitoring and apprehending wanted felons, parolees, high risk adult and juvenile probationers, and gang members.

How do I report specific problems/persons in my neighborhood?

The success of the Police Department lies in the ability to work closely with members of the community who provide valuable information regarding wanted persons or individuals engaged in criminal activity. Information or complaints are often received anonymously. C.A.G.E officers prioritize their efforts within a particular neighborhood or subject of concern based on information they receive from the community. The C.A.G.E unit’s response may include increased visibility and directed enforcement within a specific neighborhood.
