Turlock Police Department

Neighborhood Preservation

The mission of the Neighborhood Preservation Unit is to promote and maintain a safe and desirable living and working environment. We help maintain and improve the quality of our community by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes and land use requirements. We also work with residents, neighborhood associations, public services agencies and other City departments to facilitate voluntary compliance with City laws and codes.

Each resident, property owner and business owner has a responsibility to maintain homes and businesses in a manner that has a positive effect on the overall appearance of the city.

When does Neighborhood Preservation get involved?

Neighborhood Preservation initiates action after receiving a complaint or observing a violation. In all cases, the property owner is notified of any existing violations. If a property owner does not take action to correct the violation, the property may be declared a public nuisance and will be subject to abatement by the city. Property owners will be held responsible for all costs incurred by the city to abate the violations on their property.

How do I report a problem?

You may report a problem by contacting Neighborhood Preservation at (209) 664-7348, or by completing a Citizen Report Form.

Common Code Violations

A vacant building or unsightly property can be a message to criminals, drug dealers and other unauthorized persons that this a property where nobody is paying attention.

Trash, litter, weeds and debris on your premises create a fire hazard and can be an invitation to criminal activity and illegal dumping.

Excess storage on a balcony, porch or yard is unsightly and may contribute to infestations of insects and rodents.

Inoperable/Abandoned vehicles take up limited parking spaces, may create a nuisance and must be stored out of public view.

Recreational vehicles, boats, truck and travel trailers may be parked on the street for a maximum of forty-eight (48) hours to prepare the unit for recreational use.

Removing graffiti immediately shows that you care about your property and your community.
